Lesson Packet
Current Projects

Working with the Can Manufacturer’s Institute, Professional Education & Leadership designed a curriculum packet comprised of 10 interdisciplinary lesson plans focusing on recycling and the aluminum beverage can.

Components

  • Consists of 8-10 lesson plans on a particular topic.
  • Lesson plans cover math, science, language arts and social studies.
  • Lesson plans can be used separately or as a unit and are tested by teachers.

In-Depth Educational Unit
Current Projects

NASA has contracted with Professional Education & Leadership to write an in-depth educational unit about the Mars exploration rovers; specifically looking at potential rover energy sources. Additionally, an in-depth look at green chemistry through a curricular unit has been contracted by Pfizer, Inc.

Components

  • Consists of a 10-day unit (25-40 lesson plans) for a particular topic.
  • Lesson plans cover math, science, language arts and social studies.
  • Lesson plans work best when used together as a unit. However, it is possible to use lesson plans independently.
  • Includes hands-on labs and activities.
  • Tested by teachers who provide feedback on the lesson plans and activities which is in turn used to enhance the unit.

Curriculum Distribution, Website
Current Projects

The Department of Energy (DOE) partnered with Professional Education & Leadership to develop a middle level global climate change curriculum. An easy-to-navigate website, www.keystonecurriculum.org has been developed to ensure the widespread distribution of the climate change curriculum activities and lesson plans.

Components

  • Consists of development of a website with lesson plans and activities from a Professional Education & Leadership-developed curriculum unit.
  • Provides documents for lesson plans that may be modified for a particular teacher’s needs.
  • Provides links to resources and additional information.

Convention Booths and Workshops
Current Projects

One of the goals of the Can Manufacturer’s Institute is the widespread distribution of their aluminum beverage can recycling curriculum. To accomplish this goal, Professional Education & Leadership staff annually attend the National Science Teachers Association’s national convention to present curriculum workshops and staff a booth to distribute the curriculum to an international audience.

Components

  • Consists of presenting highlights of Professional Education & Leadership-developed curriculum at national and/or regional conventions through teacher workshops.
  • Includes distribution of curriculum at national and/or regional convention booth.
  • Includes all logistics planning for booth and workshop presentations.
