Caelan McGee, Associate, Center for Science and Public Policy
Caelan McGee specializes in situation assessment, process design and facilitation of land use and environmental disputes. Caelan has played a key role mediating negotiations between the Ok Tedi Copper Mine, the Government of Papua New Guinea, and the communities who live along rivers that have been severely damaged for hundreds of years as a result of mine operation.
He also facilitates local-level land use, redevelopment and zoning disputes, and is experienced in facilitating public meetings with as many as a thousand participants. Recently, Caelan co-led the public involvement and consensus building efforts for the South Broadway National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Process (the City of Denver’s first NEPA study), which will determine the future of the state highway and Denver main street, Broadway, as it passes through a major Transit Oriented Development which is also the site of a brownfield reclamation, an intersection with an interstate highway, several surrounding residential areas, and the Platte river.
Caelan also teaches graduate and undergraduate classes, including Environmental Impact Assessment, at the University of Colorado, College of Environmental Design. Caelan is also a lead trainer for the National Highway Institute course, Public Involvement in Transportation Decision Making.
