CENTER FOR EDUCATION

Original Curriculum

Over the past 20 years, The Keystone Center has developed several innovative curricula for middle and high school levels on some of the toughest issues facing society.  Each curriculum contains 10-40 original lesson plans that provide tools for educators to teach a complicated topic, like climate change, or water quality, in the classroom.  Though each curriculum addresses a different topic, each contains several common themes:

  • Sustainability.  Each Keystone curriculum helps educators address the three legs of sustainability – economics, environment, and equity.
  • Non-Biased.  Each curriculum contains strategies to identify and remove bias in order to facilitate student inquiry.
  • Standards-Based.  Each curriculum addresses national educational standards from multiple disciplines – mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts, and adheres to the Common Core Standards Initiative for math and language, and are also STEM-focused for science, technology and math.
  • Inquiry-based.  The lesson plans are designed for students to engage in hands-on, inquiry-based activities and lessons, small group work, and stakeholder engagement.

Keystone proudly offers the following curricula, designed by current and former classroom educators.
